Our Lady Queen of Peace Renovation - February 12, 2017 Update
Parking Lot: Some of you who have been asking about the "divots" on the rectory side of the parking lot. You may have noticed the large asphalt patches that have replaced the divots. They were sinkholes that we had excavated this past week and filled in.
Fr. Ray Hall: The Phase 2 contract for the Fr. Ray Hall renovation is in motion and some of you may have seen that the kitchen has been totally demolished and most of it already hauled away as they begin the second phase of the renovation. The contractors assure us that we will be able to have our Easter Sunday Masses in the hall as usual, however the renovation will not be completely done and some windows, all of which are custom manufactured, will not be in as of Easter Sunday but will be soon thereafter. We are hoping that the Fr. Ray Hall renovation will be done by mid-May.
New House: The renovation of the new house, as well as surveying and consolidation of all 4 property lots has taken place and we are now working with the county on usage permits for the new house and hope to be in there this spring. We are working with the diocese and the architects and engineers and moving forward on the renovation plans for the church as well.
An invitation ... a challenge to preserve our future
We, the community of Our Lady, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, are asking our friends and parishioners to consider making a pledge to the best of your ability to our Capital Campaign. We need to raise $1.5 million to address serious problems with the physical facilities of our parish as well as to make modifications to better accommodate our growing membership and make our facilities more accessible to persons with disabilities.
These pledge plans can be used as guidelines in making your decision. Please consider them carefully and select the one that suits your family's situation. The pledge plans indicate the manner in which contributions can be made: monthly, quarterly, semiannually or annually.
No one can tell you how much you should give. You are the only one who actually decides what to contribute, since everyone's financial obligations vary. We know that not everyone can make the same size gift, but everyone can make the same size sacrifice.
Whatever you decide to contribute should have some relationship to how you live and how generous God has been to you. If you are financially able to pledge as much as $10,000, $25,000 or even $50,000 we ask you to be leaders in the Our Lady, Queen of Peace Capital Campaign.
Every member of our parish community is integral to the success of this critical fund raising endeavor. We are turning to you, the people who call Our Lady, Queen of Peace their "spiritual home", because you can appreciate just how much this parish means to you personally.
How to make your contribution to the Capital Campaign
Use Capital Campaign yellow envelope and place it in the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. Make checks payable to "Our Lady Queen of Peace" and write "Capital Campaign" in the memo line.
E-Giving through Faith Direct
You can either give a one-time donation or set up an account to make regular monthly, quarterly and annual payments through Faith Direct. Click on "Individuals" and enter our church code "VA271" to make your donation. From the dropdown menu, select "Capital Campaign" to make sure your donation is credited to the Campaign. Faith Direct contributions can be made from your bank account or through credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).
Tax advantages of thoughtful giving
Federal and state laws on income and inheritance taxes encourage charitable giving. All annual contributions to our campaign are tax deductible for those who itemize their deductions.
It is particularly advantageous for some people to contribute appreciated securities. If you choose to contribute appreciated securities held more than 12 months, you will receive double the tax benefit through:
These tax benefits also apply to other appreciated property, such as mutual funds, closely held stock, real estate and artifacts.
Each situation is unique, and we urge you to discuss your commitment with your family. You may also wish to discuss it with your financial advisor to see which plan would be most beneficial to you and to the Parish.
Please keep in mind
This is our parish and only through your sacrifice can we achieve our goals. All contributions from the smallest to the largest are needed and will be gratefully appreciated. Your decision to make an investment in the future of our parish is a personal one. It should be made in good conscience, proportionate to your means and in a true Christian spirit of gratitude sharing with God's future children the gifts God has shared with you.
